Welcome to The Hallway Open: the first WA Strongman competition of the 2026 season.

Designed as an accessible, community-first event, The Hallway Open brings athletes together to compete, connect, and build the sport in WA. It reflects our values of inclusivity, support, and collective progress.

Expect:

  • A welcoming, athlete-first experience at The Hallway Gym, Burswood

  • Carefully selected events that are fun, practical, and straightforward to train

  • A positive, community-driven atmosphere suited to first-timers and weekend warriors

  • No qualification requirements simply register and come ready to compete

  • Free entry for spectators, great vibes, and strong support ringside

This is the starting line for WA’s next generation of strongest athletes.

THE EVENT LINEUP IS HERE…

EVENT 1: THE OVERHEAD PRESS MEDLEY

LOG -> AXLE BAR -> BARBELL

We kick things off with a classic: the barbell. Then straight into the unforgiving axle… before finishing with the signature strongman implement…the log.

This is speed, power, and commitment under pressure.
Who conquers the medley? and who takes the first big win?

Objective: Complete a clean & press on each implement in order (log, axle, barbell). Fastest time wins.

EVENT 2: THE CONAN’S WHEEL

MAXIMUM DISTANCE

This one is pure grit. The legs burn, the lungs scream, and your brain starts negotiating… but you keep moving anyway.

It’s just as mental as it is physical. How far can you go when quitting is the easy option?

Objective: Carry the Conan’s Wheel in a Zercher position for maximum distance without dropping it.

EVENT 3: SILVER DOLLAR DEADLIFT

RISING BAR - LAST MAN STANDING

The bar keeps climbing. The crowd gets louder. The pressure builds.

At 18” height, this is where people find the grind or get left behind.
Who will be the last man or woman standing?

Objective: Athletes attempt progressively heavier deadlifts. Miss a lift and you’re out. Last athlete standing wins.

EVENT 4: THE STEEPLECHASE

SANDBAG MEDLEY

A fan-favourite returns… After two years away, this event is back and it’ll test your fitness, your composure, and your ability to suffer with purpose.

Fast feet. Heavy sandbags. No excuses.
Do you have what it takes to finish strong?

Objective: Carry two sandbags 5m and load them over a bar, run around the bar, then repeat, carrying 5m and loading onto a platform all within a 75 second time cap.

EVENT 5: SANDBAG /STONE TO SHOULDER

FOR REPS

This is strongman at its rawest: pick it up, fight for position, and throw it to the shoulder again… and again… and again.

The crowd will roar louder with every rep and the clock won’t care how tired you are.

Objective: Perform as many sandbag/stone-to-shoulder reps as possible within a 60 second time cap.

HAVE QUESTIONS? WE’VE GOT ANSWERS!

  • Entry is $55, and it includes a comp t-shirt!

  • The OPEN division is for athletes who want a proper challenge. If you’ve been training consistently, you’re ready to push yourself, and you don’t really see yourself as a beginner, this is the division for you. Maybe you’ve never done strongman but you’ve built a solid base in the gym, or maybe you’ve competed before and want the next step without jumping straight into the deep end.

The NOVICE division is built to be genuinely welcoming for first-timers and newer competitors. It’s a low barrier entry designed to help you give strongman a go, learn the ropes, meet people, and walk away wanting to do it again.

  • Yes, and we’re really excited about this!!

We have juniors divisions (23 & under) and, for the first time ever, we’re introducing a teens division for anyone 16 years of age and under!

NOTE: Anyone under 18 will need a legal parent or guardian to sign for them.

We also have two masters divisions (40+ and 50+), available in both NOVICE and OPEN, because strongman should be accessible and rewarding at every stage.

  • You absolutely don’t have to compete in the Masters divisions.

Masters categories are there to give you more options, not as a limit to you. If you want the extra challenge of going head-to-head in the weight class divisions, you’re welcome to enter there instead!

  • NOVICE divisions DO NOT require a weigh-in. It runs on an honour system, and we trust athletes to place themselves in the correct age and/or weight category. The goal is to keep it simple and remove any extra stress for people who are new to competing.

OPEN divisions that select a weight class (for example u64, u105) must complete a 24-hour weigh-in to compete. Masters categories and open weight classes in the OPEN division do not need to weigh in.

  • Most definitely!

Spectating is FREE, and the atmosphere is a huge part of what makes strongman special. Bring a chair, bring friends and family, and come be part of the noise!!

  • We’d love to have you. Volunteers are a massive part of what makes these events run smoothly, and there are plenty of roles available including scorekeeping, timers, loaders, spotters, referees, and merch tent sales.
